Our Story & Field

We are a club of about 85 members and growing. The Lake Sawyer Hawks began in the year 2000 when the Boeing Hawks lost their airfield. A few members branched out to start a new club and find a place to fly.

After searching around, we discovered the old Hobart Landfill. On December 4, 2001, the Marlow Anderson R/C Airfield was officially opened. Since that day, the flying and good times have continued without pause.

What Makes Our Club Special

Lake Sawyer Hawks is built on three pillars: Community & Training, Innovation & Safety, and Volunteering & Leadership.

Community & Training

Our members volunteer their time by offering flight lessons and helping newcomers with building, assembling, and learning to fly. We want new pilots to feel welcome, supported, and confident.

  • Flight instruction and buddy-box training.
  • Help selecting and setting up your first models.
  • Friendly, family-oriented flying environment.

Innovation & Safety

The Lake Sawyer Hawks place strong emphasis on safety, education, and innovation. From mentoring new pilots to introducing advanced technologies, the club promotes responsible flying at every level.

  • Ongoing noise management in line with site agreements.
  • Cooperation with King County and King County Parks to keep our field open and safe.
  • Support for new technologies, FPV, telemetry, and modern RC systems.

Volunteering & Leadership

Members are encouraged to serve as club officers, volunteer for appointed positions, or simply join activities they enjoy. Fresh ideas and energy help us meet today’s challenges and prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities.

  • Flight instructors and training helpers.
  • Site and building maintenance volunteers.
  • Technical demonstrations and event support.

Our Bylaws outline responsibilities for each role so expectations are clear. Elected and appointed positions, along with smaller volunteer jobs, keep the club running smoothly.
